STINGERS Survive and Take CVFFL Championship

UPPER PLAYOFFS RECAP

For the Stingers it seemed as if the seconds were ticking away in slow motion. As Team Teichert rushed to the line of scrimage in an attempt to run one last play inside the Stingers 10 yard line, it was the Stingers whom were also hustling to postion themselves for one last stand. The play never transpired and when the final second ticked away, a fist in the air along with a whistle meant that Big Rob's Stingers were finally champions of the CVFFL's biggest prize. It was a game that had it all. Big plays, smack talking, fisticuffs, and first downs that seemed to always come upon a judgement spot of mere inches. There probably were'nt many who didn't forsee this match up taking place. All season long the Singers and Teichert were machine like in their execution. Teichert finished the regular season 10-0 for the second straight year. The Stingers 9-1 (only loss 7-6 to Teich.) Both teams #1 and #2 in offense and defense. Both teams: strong, fast, experienced, and loaded with talent.

SEMIS: (1) Teichert 14 vs. (4) Bearcats 0

Teichert was scheduled to play the Bearcats (last years lower champ) however a forfiet gave Teichert the free pass into the Championship game.

SEMIS: (2) Stingers 25 vs. (3) Vigilantes 0

For the Stingers first opponent it was the much improved Vigilantes. A year ago the Vigilantes were 1-9 and simply not a good team. An 0-3 start to this season seemed to indicate more of the same. However 7 straight wins locked up the #3 seed for the V-Men. MJC QB Chad Draper was a big contributor to the turn-around. Unfortunately he was missing for the playoffs. A sluggish first half for the Stingers turned into a second half route. The game was never in question.

CHAMPIONSHIP: Stingers 12 Teichert 7

The Stingers took their opening drive and marched down the field. Jose Espinoza pulled in a Randy Scautto pass from 5 yds out for the early 6-0 lead. The drive was kept alive by a coulpe of big catches from Damien "D-Money" and Anthony Monjure. Teichert answered right back as Tim Garcia led a 3 play drive to take the lead at 7-6. Late in the first half Scautto hooked up with a streaking "D-Money" to put the Stingers back up 12-7. In the second half things got ugly. With Teichert on the move Tim Garcia looked to scramble his way into the endzone from 10 yds out. Garcia was met at the goaline by the Stingers Korby Dalton. After the collision words were exchanged and a punch was thrown. Garcia was ejected for the punch. Teichert was unable to cash in on the red zone opportunity. With time running out in the game Teichert mounted one final drive. A big 4th and long catch put them back in the red zone. However with no time outs and the clock running Teichert could not get off one final play. The game ended with Teichert marching off in disbelief and the Stingers flooding the field.

HEROES OF THE DAY: 1. STINGERS DEFENSE- #1 in points allowed last two regular seasons. As the saying goes, defense wins championships. Nice Job Chad Tillis and Keeney, Jose, Eric, Korby, Chops, Brad, Danny, Justin, Ryan, Damien, Tony, and Jason

                   2. Robert Harris- 2 years ago Harris started an overhauling of his roster . Everyone of the newcomers contributed in a big way. (2005- Randy, Anthony, Brad, and Danny. 2006- Damien, Korby, Justin, Jason) NICE JOB STINGERS

BURNING QUESTIONS FOR 07/08

What will happen to Teichert? For the last two seasons Tecihert has posted undefeated regular seasons only to be denied in the final game. It goes without saying that Garcia's punch can be thought of the same way as a big int. One he'd probably like to have back. More than likely this team will remain at the top level and be right there in the end again.

Will SIDELINES MAKE A RETURN? It was Sidelines led by Rick Rush and Cecil Parshill that ended both the Stingers and Teicherts season two years ago. Was it just a one year hiatus or have they retired permanently? A return to the league would definately make things interesting.

WILL THE CVFFL Finally merge into one League , one Trophy , winner take all?
30 teams playing for one trophy sure make things fun. Can it be done? Probably. It will just take a little extra planning. Bottom line, for the most part any given day any team has a shot.

Can the STINGERS Do it again? This wont be easy. Trophies are like bullseyes for other teams and the STINGERS can bet that they will get everyones "A" game for every week of every game.
