Greetings, and welcome to our little piece of real estate in cyberspace! Fortunately, we also have land where we can actually play our games!
Our League is rich in tradition, with two of our teams having reached the Little League World Series Final (1955 & 1956), a player to be 1 of 4 to pitch a perfect game in the Little League World Series (1956), and a player enshrined in The Peter J. McGovern Little League Museum Hall of Excellence (2000). We also have current players who have attained national notoriety.
We have established this internet presence to keep our players and parents informed of the goings on of our League. We also hope that all who visit our site enjoy their stay, and go away a little more enlightened about who we are and what we've accomplished. The site is updated on a regular basis, and we are continually adding content, so please keep checking back with us. The best places to start are the Homepage (you're here now!) and the League News page. Feel free to look around, stay a while, and enjoy!!

Congratulations to our Big League Girls-
State Co-Champions
|
It seemed like we would never get a final determination on the issue, but word finally came down that the National Big League Girls' Softball Team is State Co-Champions, sharing the title with Bayonne.
The tournament, which was scheduled as a best of 3 series, never was able to reach a conclusion. In the first game, Bayonne eeked out a win in a pitcher's duel, 2-1.
Before the tournament could conclude, the teams needed to play in the Regional Tournament held in New Haven, Ct. Both teams were allowed to participate in that tournament as long as the State Tournament hadn't reached a conclusion. Even though both teams were invited to Regionals, only National was able to make the trip. At the conclusion of Regionals, National and Bayonne were to resume the State Tournament, but both teams traded unofficial forfeits.
League reps. from Cherry Hill National inquired with the District 13 Administrator to see what the official and final determination would be for the State Tournament. It was a foregone conclusion that the tournament would not be able to be completed since the school year (some of the girls attend college) made scheduling nearly impossible. On November 18th, League Officials finally got word that both National and Bayonne would share the title.
Photos from the State and Regional Tournament games. We'd like to again thank the Booth and Harbora families for providing the photos. You can view them by going the the Galleries page of the site.
Congratulations Girls!!
2009 Opening Day Ceremonies To Get Major Makeover
Looking for Volunteers To Help Plan The Upcoming Festivities
While we had a good turnout for the 2008 Opening Day Ceremonies, we did notice that there were a "few" people missing.
We are currently looking for people to participate in our Opening Day Ceremony Planning Committee. In addition, we are also looking for someone to coordinate the planning of the day. The coordinator will work closely with one of our Board Members in the planning and execution of the 2009 Event.
Whether you have prior event planning experience, or simply are interested in making this year's festivities something to remember, we want you involved!
We will also continue to keep the survey in place at the bottom of this page to critique the 2008 Opening Day Ceremonies, and to submit suggestions for 2009.
The survey consists of two questions: The first is thrown out there for everyone, and the second might be better suited for people who attended this year. You can respond multiple times, but only one answer per response. The survey is write in, and the responses will not be published. If you feel you need more room for your suggestions, just send us an email.
We'd like to hear from everyone - spread the word so everyone can participate in the survey and have their voices heard. We're hoping to have a little something for everyone next year.
Hopefully, you'll see the results at next year's Opening Day Ceremonies!!
Volunteers Are the Cornerstone of Any Youth Organization's Success. That Success Begins With You!
The success of any organization, especially those involving our youth, is measured by the people who are a part of it. Whether it’s a large business or a club, the quality of the people and their efforts are what separates the average from the exceptional.
A youth organization, particularly Cherry Hill National, can measure it’s success through many indicators, but the main measuring stick is how well we do at providing quality programs that enrich the lives of our children.
Volunteers are essential to ensure that our organization not only survives, but thrives. There are many opportunities to help out with our League: managing or coaching a team, umpiring, maintaining the complex, staffing the snack bar, or carrying out other pre-defined roles and tasks. Volunteering could also be an extension of your profession - whether professional or skilled - those types of services are regularly needed.
One of the goals with respect to volunteering at National is to get more people to do less. This may sound a little odd at first, but we try to remain cognizant of the fact that people have a limited amount of available time. It’s great if people want to take on additional responsibilities, but we don’t want to lose potential volunteers who are afraid to help because they believe they’ll be overburdened with tasks and responsibilities. As we further define roles and responsibilities within the League, potential volunteers will know exactly what is expected of them if they choose to donate their time.
At National, we want to create an atmosphere where people want to volunteer and be a part of something special. If you are interested in volunteering your time and/or services, please contact CHNLL by phone - (856) 667-8334 or by email - chnational@gmail.com.
We are looking forward to having you as part of our team!
We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate the Philadelphia Phillies on winning the 2008 World Series over the Tampa Bay Rays. It wasn't that long ago that we had a special guest at National who later went on to become an integral part of this championship team.
Greg Dobbs, the pinch hitting phenom for the Phillies' championship run, spoke to the players at National for the 2007 Opening Day Ceremonies. We'd like to thank Rob Holiday, who is also part of the Phillies Organization, for making Greg's appearance possible. Even though he was relatively unknown to most Phillies fans at the time, Greg developed along with the team into championship-caliber talent.
Below are some photos of Greg taken during the 2007 Opening Day Ceremonies, and then some taken during the Celebration Parade on October 31, 2008.
Special thanks go out to Greg for taking the time to come to our League and speak to our players. We wish Greg continued success in his career.
CHNLL Board Elects New President, Officers
On October 1st, Cherry Hill National’s Board of Directors elected new officers for the upcoming year. One noticeable change was the election of a new President. After 15 years of exemplary service to the League and the Community, Dr. Steven Saft stepped down as National’s President. Taking his place is Chuck Rossell, who had been National’s Website Administrator and Information Officer for the past year. In August, National’s website was recognized by it’s host provider, eteamz, as the Spotlight Site for that month.
Returning as Vice-President is Larry Decker, who has been invaluable in providing skilled services for the League. The services included, but weren’t limited to, field maintenance and facility repairs and improvements.
CHNLL’s new Treasurer is Toni Ketrick, who coached in the Jr/Sr Softball Division last year. She and her husband Mike, who is also a Board Member, will be managing the snack bar for the upcoming year.
The Secretary duties still remain in the ever capable hands of Harry Taylor, who has been involved with Cherry Hill National for many years.
Rounding out the officer positions is Marty Silverman, who continues in the role of Player Agent. Marty has been with the League for a long time, and has worn many hats throughout his tenure. From making executive decisions on the Board to cleaning up at the end of the evening, Marty has done it all!
Two Board Members who were elected to another term this year are Chris Thomas and Gino Brown.
Chris Thomas has been a Board Member for several years and has been Softball Coordinator, responsible for the registration, tryouts, and drafts in each division. Chris has also handled the ordering and inventory of League equipment. As if that weren’t enough, he has helped coach softball teams during his time with National.
Gino Brown has dedicated his time with the League to the baseball side of the house. Elected as a new member of the CHNLL Board last year, Gino has helped with sponsorship recruitment and fundraising efforts. This year, he will coordinate fundraising activity for the League.
Rounding out the 2009 Board is Jeff Albrecht. Although he is new to the Board, he has been coaching and helping out at National for several years.
We wish the 2009 CHNLL Officers and Board Members the best of luck for the upcoming year.
A Special 'Thank You' To Outgoing Board Members
As the new League Officers and Board Members take over during this transitional period, it's a perfect time to acknowledge and thank those who served on the 2008 CHNLL Board, and will not be returning in 2009.
Three people who deserve special recognition are Steve Saft, Jerry Harbora, and Eva Harbora.
Steve Saft, who has steered the Organization as President for well over a decade, has overseen significant progress at National over the years. Under his direction, major renovations have been completed on all fields, creating a premiere facility to host in-house, as well as tournament, games. Steve, with the help of other Board Members, was also able to coordinate the creation of a softball program that is one of the most comprehensive in the State.
Jerry Harbora could also be called "Mr. Versatility," doing whatever was necessary to make sure things ran smoothly. From working on the fields, to making repairs/improvements to the complex, Jerry has done it all throughout the years. What makes Jerry's tenure even more special was that during his youth, he played baseball in the Organization. He has been the link from the past to the present.
Finally, Eva Harbora has been the operator of the snack bar for National. Even though parents have been needed to volunteer for snack bar, people have been needed to manage its operation. Eva has been the one to coordinate it all, with the additional task of ordering merchandise.
It's easy to take for granted having the League move forward and not wonder how it actually happens. It takes people like Steve, Jerry, and Eva to keep things moving along, and volunteers like them take a lot of their personal time and put it into the League.
If you happen to run into them, whether it be at National or elsewhere, please take time to thank them for their service to the League and the Community.

Because of this recognition, we'd like to thank certain people who had a hand in making it possible. First, we'd like to thank Gino Brown and Aurora Financial Group for providing a donation so that National could have a website. We'd also like to thank Dr. Steven Saft and the CHNLL Board of Directors with giving the webmaster creative latitude to design and implement the website. Thanks also go out to eteamz for providing support when we weren't sure how to do something - they always provided the solution in a courteous and prompt manner.
