River Valley Junior Cycling: Welcome
|
Great weather-time to bike
|
We are looking for cyclists or wanna be cyclists. Give us a call. 952-492-6169 (Guy Beck)
River Valley Junior Cycling is now a member of the League of American Bicyclists. It is clear that if we are going to grow the sport we need to advocate for changes for safe riding. http://www.bikeleague.org/
Guy, Kirk and Steve had a mountain bike trip in Maryland that became quite interesting because it was very technical(slower than expected), longer than expected and we found out the sun doesn't stay out quite as long on the coast as here in Minnesota. The last half an hour was very dark and became interesting when deer started crashing through the woods.
June 21, 2008 Jordan Valley Bike Tour: 17 miles of rolling hills generally upward and 18 miles of head wind on the way back. It was bright and sunny with about 400 riders.
Rachel and Guy saw a professional tour race in Philadelphia, PA. It was quite a sight. 200 rider, 97 degree weather, 10 unbelievable climbs and excellent view points in the center of Philadelphia.
May 31, 2008 Tour De Cure: 45 miles, bright sunny and no wind. An awesome ride. Congrats to Rachel, Ryan and Brittany for completing the ride.
Next Ride Event: Masabie Trail in Aug
Thanks Kramer Chiropractic for your business sponsorship.
Thanks to many individual sponsors and the Koons Family (Team Koons)

Why Road Cycling (Bicycling)?
- Cycling is a unique sport that offers many events: Road events, criteriums, time trials, track, CycloCross, numerous non-competitive rides and Mountain Biking.
- USA Cycling already has a platform of State, Region and National races for juniors.
- Youth have too few sport competitive alternatives. Competition for gym or field time is fierce. Cycling allows a wide range of areas to use for training.
- Builds individual and group skills while seeing accomplishments. A 15 year old completed a 45 mile ride this year. How about starting the year at an average speed of 12 mph and ending the year with a 30 mile ride at 18 mph average?
- Cycling is a life long sport.
- Cycling (bicycling) is a growing sport in the US. Publicity at events is not fully tapped. For instance the Minnesota Ironman in Lakeville draws over 5,000 riders and rides through Lakeville, Prior Lake, and Jordan.
