LAURA - GET WELL SOON - All the tigers would like to wish our U.16's defender all the very best as she recovers from major knee surgery with doctors informing her she possibly won't be able to play competitive football in the future. Let's hope for the best and remember Laura - ONCE A TIGER ALWAYS A TIGER!!!

 News - Sun. 5th October: -

Crickhowell U.16's P v P Mardy Tigers U.16's

Mardy Tigers U.12's 0 v 1 Georgetown U.12's

Mardy Tigers U.12's 4 v 1 Penydarren & Merthyr Valley U.12's

The tigers were left very disappointed at the postponement of their game @ Crickhowell this afternoon.

With the weather improving throughout the day our U.12's played @ home and ran the table toppers Georgetown very close and deserved much more considering their superb second half performance with Shauna & Katie picking up player of the match awards. Their second game saw them win 4 v 1 against a spirited Penydarren team. The tigers took control in midfield with Shauna & Alana chosen as players of the match. The tigers philosophy @ U.12's has and will always be not to worry about results but to get the basics in place for the move up to proper football.

Sun. 28th September: -

ZOE JOINS THE 200 CLUB - Well done Zoe Simmonds.

S.W.G.L. - Mardy Tigers U.16's 6 v 3 Cyncoed U.16's

This was a game which the tigers had to win twice having thrown away a 3 v 0 lead to score 3 goals in the last 5 minutes to take the points against a tenacious Cardiff outfit. It was the sort of match which makes you glad to be envolved in girls football with players and supporters from both teams showing respect for everyone. Some of the football was a pleasure to watch too. Having taken control of the match the tigers went to sleep and with the help of 2 own goals Cyncoed made an amazing comeback which woke the sleeping tigers just in time. Many teams would have thrown in the towel 3 v 0 down but our visitors were never going to do that whilst again some clubs having lost a 3 v 0 lead would have lost the game but not this bunch of fighters. Considering the age of the squad it's been a fantastic start to the season for Mardy Tigers U.16's but we know how tough it's going to get through the winter months. Keep it up TIGERS!!!

CONGRATULATIONS HADDERS!!!

Everyone at the club would like to congratulate Rebekah who has just been selected in the Wales U.17's squad to travel to Romania in October to compete in the U.E.F.A. U.17's qualifying tournament. Hadders who has just rejoined the tigers after a season with Newport County will be joined by former tiger legend Sharla Passariello who will captain the squad. Mardy Tigers are proud of you both and wish you all the very best on your travels.

2008 - 2009 Season - Looking Ahead.

Whilst last season will live long in the memory of everyone connected with Mardy Tigers Girls' Football Club it's all history now and time to focus our thoughts on a brand new season with the club running U.12's, U.14's & U.16's teams for the very first time. Our U.12's squad will compete in the South Wales Girls' League and it promises to be a busy season with possibly 20 teams in their league. A young squad has been assembled, brand new kit thanks to kind sponsors with the players encouraged to play with style and not worry about results at this young age. A brand new challenge awaits our U.14's squad with Gwent F.A. informing the club we'll be expected to compete in the new Gwent Girls' League next season. We hope the tigers rise to the challenge although it does mean the hat-trick of S.W.G.L. U.14's titles has gone by the way. Our U.16's squad which will actually be an U.14's / 15's squad will be given just  1 instruction this coming season, to go out and enjoy themselves using the year to prepare for the 2009 - 2010 campaign. It will be unreallistic to expect the tigers to compete against older and stronger teams with clubs also combining to try and gain success. Jade will lead from the front as usual and we'll give a few clubs a run for their money I'm sure.

2008 Welsh Schools U.14's Champions
Mardy Tigers can claim to have helped bring the Welsh Schools U.14's Cup to Abergavenny in April supplying the majority of the team, led by captain Kate Jeremiah and scorer of the last minute winner against Prestatyn Alice Morgan. It was certainly a proud day for the King Henry VIII School, Mardy Tigers Girls' F.C. and the town of Abergavenny. It was the first time a team from Monmouthshire had lift the Welsh Cup.

Shrewsbury International Football Tournament

Tigers @ Shrewsbury: - Aug. 6th - 8th.

Day 1 - 13 tigers travelled to Shrewsbury on Wednesday morning for a 3 day trip staying at the exclusive Shrewsbury School. The squad arrived in plenty of time to settle in and prepare for their first match against old rivals C.Y.P. Wales, a team selected from many clubs throughout Wales.A bright start by the tigers saw them lead at the interval thanks to a goal from Jonesy. However their opponents long ball Wimbledon style football and not pretty to watch caught the girls out in the second half with 2 quick goals. However the tigers fought back and looked like getting a draw which would have been the very least they deserved when Amy struck with 5 minutes left. However the old saying " You're most vulnerable just after you score" came true when C.Y.P. nicked it almost from kick off. Having played much the better football the tigers returned to base and lick their wounds ahead of an important day 2.

Day 2 - There were no negative thoughts at breakfast, only talk of 2 wins today and a place in the final tomorrow. Sharing breakfast were boys from Manchester United & Cardiff City. The coach arrived in plenty of time to prepare for the first of 2 very important fixtures against Aberystwyth Academy. The wounded tigers were magnificent and totally outplayed their shell shocked opponents with a 4 v 0 victory thanks to goals from: - Amy, Kate, Zoe & Kayleigh. It really could and should have been a lot more. American opposition in F.C. New York now stood in our way for the very first time knowing victory would book us a cup final place tomorrow. A goalless first half but no nerves as the tigers knew patience would be the key against a physical outfit. A goal from Jonesy in the second minute after the break was followed up by a superb strike from kate to seal victory. Spirits were high on their return to Shrewsbury School with Big & Little Wayne captaining sides in a game of football rounders. Jade made 100 new friends, all 9 year old Manchester United players and joined them for a training session. Early to bed, maybe not!!! to prepare for big game tomorrow.

Day 3 - Sunshine accompanied the squad on an early morning stroll in the school grounds before breakfast as the girls looked forward to their re-match with C.Y.P. Wales. 12.30 p.m. was kick off time but this was delayed due to a nasty injury in the match before ours. When the final did get started the tigers began strongly and a goal after 10 minutes from Jonesy, her third of the tournament, settled the nerves. The girls looked comfortable in posession but again a lump forward was to be their downfall just before half-time making it 1 v 1. The second period saw quite a few chances go missing for the tigers in this match of very contrasting styles. Play was held up for 30 minutes for a bad injury to a C.Y.P. player with an ambulance needed to take her to hospital. Penalties would decide this one. 4 v 4 after 5 each it went to sudden death. 5 v 5 after 8 each. A tiger miss gave their opponents a chance but a superb save from replacement keeper Jade was ruled out as the referee's assistant ruled she'd come off her line. This time the ball hit the net to seal victory for the representative outfit. Medals were presented by former Wales manager Mike Smith.

A fantastic trip may have ended in disappointment but as usual Mardy Tigers made many friends and admirers for their style of play on the field and superb attitudes off it.WELL DONE TIGERS - YOU WERE A CREDIT TO THE CLUB.
