Richmond Youth Futsal a Huge Success!

What started as a good idea in 2007 has turned out to be a community winner.  Futsal or indoor soccer has invaded the Richmond Recreation Complex.  With help from Hugo Perez (1994 World Cup Soccer Player), Hugo Perez Jr., Diego Garcia (Richmond Sol) and a host of coaches and volunteers, Richmond Youth Futsal now has 16 Teams in 3 age divisions.

Each Sunday, from 1:30pm to 6:30pm the gym is packed with hundreds of spectators cheering on their favorite Futsal teams.  Monday nights from 5:30pm to 8:30pm the big kids (12U) hit the floor to demonstrate their soccer skills.

We would like to invite the entire community to come out  and watch Richmond Youth participating in positive and healthy activities.  Even those who are not big soccer fans will love the excitement and scoring that Futsal, a five on five version of soccer, brings.

Jr NBA/WNBA Citywide Hoops is Off the Charts!

Wednesday through Saturday, good luck finding gym space in the City of Richmond.  This year's Citywide League has over 40 teams in 4 different age divisions (16U, 14U, 12U and 10U.  The word has gone out that Richmond has great competition, organized leagues and clean gyms.   Now teams from Vallejo to Oakland want to be involved and benefit from the positive atmosphere and good competition.  We have extended a neighborly hand to our friends from the East and the South and they have helped to make our program that much better.

The League is a collaboration between Richmond Youth Sports, the YMCA, WCCUSD and Richmond PAL.  Our colloboration shows that multiple agencies can work together for the betterment of our youth.  Our mission is to bring our neighborhoods together, one player at a time, through sports and teamwork.  We hope to spread this positive spirit to the greater community of Richmond.

We invite you to come out and watch our exciting games.  We are always in need or volunteers, coaches and resourses.

Candy Cane Classic 2007

We would like to thank all players, coaches, staff members, volunteers, and fans for making the 2007 version of the Candy Cane Classic a great one.  This year we hosted 20 teams from around the East Bay for some exciting basketball action.  Games were played here, in Richmond, at the Recreation Complex and at the Booker T Anderson Gym.

Richmond PAL beat the Oakland Rebels to take the 14U boys crown.  The Wilson Tigers beat the Recreation Complex team to become the 12U boys champions.  In the girls division, the Montera lady Bruins beat Pinole/BTA to win the crown.

We are looking forward to seeing you all next year.  If you would like to support the Candy Cane Classic or become a volunteer, please contact Youth Sports 510 620-6919.

"The winners in life think constantly in terms of I can, I will, and I am. Losers, on the other hand, concentrate their waking thoughts on what they should have or would have done, or what they can't do." - Dennis Waitley
